ECB supervisory board head Nouy again reiterates need to reduce Greek banks’ NPLs

The head of the European Central Bank’s (ECB) supervisory board, Danièle Nouy, met separately on Monday with Bank of Greece (BoG) Gov. Yannis Stournaras and the top executives of Greece’s four systemic banks and the banking association’s leadership, with the credit institutions’ balance sheets under scrutiny.

Relevant dep. minister: Next round of pension cuts will affect ‘at most’ 30% of pensioners

A relevant deputy minister over the weekend said “no more” than 30 percent of current pensioners in the country will be affected by another round of social security cuts scheduled to take effect on January 2019 – an austerity measure passed by the Tsipras government through Parliament in 2016.

Ex ELSTAT chief targeted for third time as case goes back to court

In what has become an ongoing saga, the case file of the former head of Greece’s statistical service, ELSTAT, Andreas Georgiou, is to go before the Council of Appeals Court Judges for the third time after the Supreme Court’s criminal section accepted a prosecutor’s appeal against his earlier acquittal.

Banks to submit proposals for further relaxation of capital controls this month

Greece’s systemic banks are expected to table a series of proposals to the Bank of Greece within the month to further relax capital controls in the country, an issue that again reportedly dominated talks on Friday between the relevant deputy prime minister, Yannis Dragassakis, and banks’ leadership.

More bond issues to shore up post-bailout future

Greece wants to tap bond markets twice before year-end and may sell its first 10-year issue in a decade, in an effort to convince investors that it does not need any more external aid after its bailout program ends in August, sources said.
