Burson-Marsteller Shares in Seven Cannes Lions Awards at 2017 Cannes Lions International Festival Of Creativity

NEW YORK, June 26, 2017 – Burson-Marsteller, a leading global strategic communications and public relations firm, today announced it shared in seven awards at the 64th Annual Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity. These Lions awards are for work on behalf of Italia Longeva, the Italian network dedicated to aging established by The Ministry of Health, and Qualcomm. The Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity is an eight-day global event for professionals in creative communications, advertising and related fields and the most prestigious global award forum for these industries.

Burson-Marsteller’s award-winning work for Italia Longeva was the positioning and PR support for a chatbot called “Chat Yourself” created by Y&R Italia. The chatbot serves as a memory aid for people in the early stages of Alzheimer’s or dementia. It enables users to record key pieces of information (such as names of family members and friends, addresses, favorite meals and directions) they can reference from the chatbot when their memories fail. Using artificial intelligence, the chatbot can understand and chat with sufferers without asking them to learn specific sentences or commands. The Burson-Marsteller team led media and influencer relations in both medical and general-market media.

“Chat Yourself” earned the following Lions:

  • Gold, Mobile Category, Data & Insight subcategory
  • Silver, Mobile Category, Apps as a Product/Service subcategory
  • Bronze, Mobile Category, Targeted Communication subcategory
  • Bronze, Mobile Category, Messaging Campaign subcategory
  • Bronze, Lions Innovation, Creative Data category
  • Bronze, Pharma Lions, Patient Engagement Utilities category

“We are extremely proud that this premier global celebration of creativity has recognized our creative efforts for Italia Longeva and Qualcomm,” said Don Baer, Worldwide Chair and CEO, Burson-Marsteller. “We are very pleased to be part of outstanding teams of client and agency partners who worked together to develop and promote groundbreaking campaigns.”

For Qualcomm, Ogilvy New York conceived a short film called “Lifeline,” a powerful example of a technology company using a creative entertainment format to demonstrate the impact of its product and appeal to a diverse audience. The Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 chipset was integrated into the film with many of the innovative technology experiences it delivers written into the story, including fast charging, mobile security, superior imaging and ultra-fast connectivity. The film was introduced at Qualcomm’s Snapdragon Festival, and Burson-Marsteller’s Beijing team led the PR and social components of the integrated communications campaign in mainland China to promote the Snapdragon brand and the advanced features of the mobile processors. This work won a Bronze Lion in the Entertainment, Film 15 minutes or over category.

“We are thrilled to accept these awards with Italia Longeva, Y&R Italia and all of our colleagues who bring the inspiration and creativity that is at the heart of world-class work,” said Ramiro Prudencio, CEO, Europe, Middle East and Africa, Burson-Marsteller. “It is a true honor to be recognized on the international stage at the Cannes Lions alongside the best, brightest and most creative minds in the world.”

Margaret Key, CEO, Burson-Marsteller Asia-Pacific, added, “We are honored to share in this Cannes Lion for our work with Qualcomm, which demonstrates the breadth of fresh thinking we strive to bring to our clients on every assignment. This award-winning work is a wonderful tribute to our team at Burson-Marsteller Beijing and terrific partners at Qualcomm and Ogilvy for their willingness to break new ground with communications. I am so proud of everyone involved.”
